How to install Windows 10 without Microsoft account? Hi guys I recently DIY'd a new computer to install Windows 10 but wanted to use a local account the entire time instead of tying in a Microsoft account.

 

Answer: Each Windows-based computer maintains a machine account password history containing the current and previous passwords used for the account. When two computers attempt to authenticate with each other and a change to the current password is not yet received Windows then relies on the previous password.

 

I've been reading that the setup process force you to sign in with a Microsoft account. However for privacy and simplicity reasons I prefer to use a local account just like I did with Windows 10 and older versions. I hope someone who has recently been through this process could guide me on how to setup windows 11 with a local account.

 

Installing Windows 11 without a Microsoft account is possible. During setup disconnect the PC from the internet to bypass the Microsoft account requirement and create a local account instead.

Using Microsoft account you can sync settings files and sign in to apps seamlessly and you don't have to sign-in apps individually - a plus benefit over local account. If you plan to switch to local account I recommend to decrpypt Bitlocker drive first. When you switch to local account you can encrypt it back.
