What Is Tamsulosin and How Does It Work? Tamsulosin is used by men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH). It does not shrink the prostate but it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder.

 

Tamsulosin is an oral drug for the treatment of men who are having difficulty urinating because of enlarged prostates from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Although tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker it is not approved for the treatment of high blood pressure.

 

Tamsulosin (Flomax) is an alpha-blocker medication that treats the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia).

 

Tamsulosin sold under the brand name Flomax among others is a medication used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia and chronic prostatitis in men. [6][7] It is also used to help with the passage of kidney stones. [8]
