Considered the most authentic Japanese Garden outside of Japan the Portland Japanese Garden is a haven of tranquil beauty in all four seasons. In Spring of 2017 the Garden opened its new Cultural Village complete with new garden spaces classrooms exhibition and gallery space and the Umami Cafe.

Overlooking the city and providing a tranquil urban oasis it encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles including an authentic Japanese Tea House meandering streams and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood.

 

In 1963 the Japanese Garden in Washington Park was founded by Portland civic leaders banding together to build an authentic Garden on the abandoned zoo site. Today the Garden is managed and operated by the Portland Japanese Garden a private non-profit organization.

Located on a steep hillside with stunning views of downtown Portland the city?s many bridges and Mount Hood the Portland Japanese Garden campus is accessed via a brief hike up the winding pathway from the Welcome Center to the Cultural Village.

 

Portland Japanese Garden is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization cultural institution and public attraction in Portland Oregon. The Garden which opened to the public in 1967 occupies 12.5 acres (5.1 ha) in Portland's Washington Park and is adjacent to the International Rose Test Garden.
